When adopted, they will need time to adjust to the changes in their life.

Tammy Wynette is a sweet, 2 yr old GSD who was found as a stray in NM carrying her leash in her mouth. After posting her on Facebook and receiving 76,000 likes, sadly, nobody came forward to claim her. The shelter staff suspected that she may have some vision issues, and after being transferred to FRGSR and being seen at an eye specialist clinic, we've learned that Tammy has some old, smaller cataracts that the vet thinks she may have been born with. Because we don't have any medical history on her, it's difficult to know how things may or may not progress regarding her vision. Her current vision is very good and she has no trouble navigating stairs, jumping in and out of the car or tracking her foster sister from at least 100 yards away. Tammy's foster mom suspects that her original owner may not have socialized her well with other dogs or people, but she does warm up if you approach her in a calm, gentle manner. She was living with a GSD, a GSP and a Boston Terrier and she got along great with all of the dogs. She know lives with several male Shepherds, and is doing great there also. She seems to prefer living with male dogs. She loved going to the dog park as well as for hikes and long walks. She is house trained and knows some basic commands. She is very hand shy and startles easily, but she's blossoming every day. We're hoping she'll find a person with a warm heart who will give this girl a second chance at life in a loving, quiet forever home.
