Freddie Prinze is a sweet, approximately 5-6 year old purebred GSD who was surrendered, along with three other GSDs to FRGSR when his owner passed away unexpectedly. It's very obvious that he, more so than the other dogs, was severely neglected. The owner's wife alleged that they did all of their own vetting, so yesterday was Freddie's first visit to see a veterinarian. He has a large, what the vet hopes to be, non cancerous lump  on his chest that is callused, and it rubs on his front legs. He recently came into contact with a skunk and the vet thinks that his eyes may be watering from the skunk spray which is an irritant. His left ear is floppy, possibly due to trauma or an untreated hematoma. His hips are both very infected with open sores and his left foot also has open, untreated sores that have caused substantial swelling. The vet shaved away the matted, dirty hair from the open sores and prescribed some strong antibiotics to help Freddie's wounds to heal. His treatment plan will come in stages, because he has so many needs. He is at least 25 pounds underweight, and he's not yet learned to trust that he'll be fed regularly. The chest lump will likely be removed in about one month after his wounds have healed. He has received a rabies vaccine, but the vet wants to wait until he's healthier before administering the other vaccines.

After the vet visit, Freddie received a nice, long bath while other people at the dog wash stared - likely wondering what happened to him. He gave his foster mom some kisses as though he was thanking FRGSR for pulling him from such an awful existence. We are grateful that Freddie is young enough to hopefully have a loving adoptive family come along to provide him with the love, care and attention he so deserves for the rest of his life. We'll post more updates as he settles in.

Although we do our best to keep our adoptable animals page as current as possible, the animals you see may already be in an adoption process.
